Crimson Oak
Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)This large tree grows up to 70 meters (229.7 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 52 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.
It has a long and flexible, straight trunk covered in knobbly, brown and grey bark, and inside, the very dense wood is pale brown.
The numerous branches are short stubs and are covered with very large amounts of smooth, large, very thin leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are crimson and orange.
In late summer it forms medium-sized, grey, winged seeds that float and land far away.
The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.
Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with patches of undergrowth between them.
