Waterthorn

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 126 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has several flexible, crooked stems covered in waxy, brown-green speckled bark, and the wood inside is yellow-brown.

The branches are short, rigid and upright that and are covered with very large amounts of miniature, needle-like, leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of grey or slate that gradient shifts to black at the top, tough and soft.

It produces thousands of small, lime flowers with needle-like petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have an intensely strong scent that smells like paint. In mid-summer it forms smallgrey, winged seeds that spin and fall nearby.

It absorbs an exceptionally large amount of water each day.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
