Aquamara Fruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 14 feet (4.3 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 33 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, curved trunk covered in fine, smooth, burgundy bark, and inside, the flexible wood is brown.

The branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of tiny, perforated leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are generally light grey.

In early spring, it produces dozens of medium-sized, magenta blossoms with long, tapering petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a fairly strong scent that smells like paint.

In early winter it produces small, asymmetrical fruit. The leathery aquamarine skin is stretchy and edible when cooked; it is spicy and salty, and the crunchy blood red flesh is salty and sour and sticky. The dark yellow seeds are small and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with patches of undergrowth between them.
