Groundberry Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This big fruit tree grows up to 33 feet (10.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 48 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a flexible, crooked trunk covered in very thick, waxy, dark green bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is mahogany-coloured.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with copious amounts of small, circular leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are bronze and blue.

In early spring, it produces a handful of medium-sized, gentle red blossoms with broad, flat petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a faint scent that smells like fruity.

In mid-summer it produces tiny, slender, 2 pointed fruit. The fuzzy turquoise skin is stretchy and inedible, and the crunchy peach flesh is sour and dry. The bronze seed is small and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
It is difficult to kill and will quickly regrow if it falls or if its limbs are knocked off.
