Butterfly Whisperer

This short flower grows up to 1 inch (3 cm) tall. Its orange stem is wispy and straight, and the tiny, black or slate leaves are wispy with wavy edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

A single small flower sits at the end of the stem. The flowers are 14 cm (5.5 inches) wide, with petals that are either violet or green, with a yellow center. The flower head is shaped like a tube made up of handfuls of widely spaced, round-tipped petals. They detach easily.

It has a fairly strong scent that smells like candle wax, and it has an average amount of pollen; it can cause allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects and is particularly attractive to butterflies.
