Twistvine Fruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This short fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 40 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 62 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, twisting trunk covered in ridged, brown and grey bark, and inside, the dense wood is yellow-brown.

The small handful of branches are short and thick and are covered with thick bunches of miniature, thick leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are either violet or orange, with pink edges.

In early spring, it produces lots of large, bronze blossoms with circular petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are sturdy and have a delicate scent that smells like coconut.

In early autumn it produces small, long, narrow fruit. The waxy azure skin is stretchy and inedible, and the slightly crunchy dark blue flesh is salty and sour and juicy. The grey seeds are small and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
