Bloodfire Lily

This giant flower grows up to 7.7 feet (2.3 meters) tall. Its gray stem is very thin, and the miniature, blood red leaves are spear shaped with tattered edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

A single large flower sits at the end of the stem. The flowers are 21 cm (8.3 inches) wide, with solid amber petals and a pink central disk. The flower head is largely flat with 41 raised round-tipped petals. They fall easily.

It has a fairly strong scent that smells like onion, and it has very little pollen; it does not cause any allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is also particularly attractive to bees.
