Copperneedle
Flower type: Perennial (Stores water in its stem)This average-sized flower grows up to 1.8 feet (53 cm) tall. Its gray stems grow in bunches of 8 and are wispy with a curved tip, and the huge, copper leaves are needle-like with jagged edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves grow in pairs along the length of the stem.
Each stem splits 5 to 7 times; a single large flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 38 cm (15.0 inches) wide, with beige petals that gradient shift to cyan on the outer edge. The central disk is blood red. The flower head is shaped like a heart with 40 widely spaced, round-tipped petals. They fall easily.
It has a delicate scent that smells like rotten meat, and it has copious amounts of pollen. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is also particularly attractive to insects.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
It grows well in the sun and full shade.
