Burgundy Petalvine

Flower type: Annual (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This average-sized flower grows up to 1.6 feet (48 cm) tall. Its burgundy stems grow in bunches of 3 and are very thick with a curved tip, and the large, red leaves are light orange-yellow on the underside and are broad, flat with toothed edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

2 to 7 medium-sized flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 7 cm (2.8 inches) wide, with solid black petals decorated with deep red dots and a vivid purple central disk. The flower head is largely flat with dozens of widely spaced narrow petals. They fall easily.

It has an overpowering scent that smells like misty mornings, and it has lots of pollen, but it does not cause any allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects , but is also visited by a small species of bird.
