Copperwood

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This large fruit tree grows up to 38 feet (11.6 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 47 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, twisting trunk covered in delicate, ridged, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the dense wood is yellow-brown.

The excessive amount of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of small, long, narrow leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are found in white, blood red and cyan varieties.

In early spring, it produces balls of medium-sized, grey blossoms with broad, flat petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are hardy and have an overpowering scent that smells like cherry.

In late summer it produces very large, spherical fruit. The soft crimson skin is stretchy and savoury, and the soft crimson flesh is spicy and very dry. The dark brown seeds are large and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
