Aquamarine Mahogany

Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This modest-sized tree grows up to 15 meters (49.2 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 136 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a branched, curved trunk covered in very thick, waxy, mahogany-coloured bark, and inside, the soft wood is silver.

The tangled mess of branches are very short and thin and are covered with large amounts of smooth, huge, slender, pointed leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either copper or green, with aquamarine patches.

In late summer it forms small, vibrant orange, spiky-shelled seeds.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with clear space between them.

It is suitable for making paper
It out-competes most other plants for nutrients and light.
