Sapphire Berry Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 29 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, wonky trunk covered in ridged, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the flexible wood is white with black speckles.

The branches are long and thin and are covered with very large amounts of large, very thin leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are solid subtle blue or aquamarine, with white splotches.

In early spring, it produces handfuls of small, purple blossoms with oval-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have a delicate scent that smells like onion.

In early summer it produces , oblong fruit. The fuzzy blood red skin is thick and inedible, and the slightly crunchy red flesh is savoury and sticky. The beige seed is very large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.
