Copper Needle Pine

Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its leaves)

This small tree grows up to 2 meters (6.6 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 291 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a wide, curved trunk covered in very thick, rough, mahogany-coloured bark, and inside, the soft wood is black with white speckles.

The numerous branches trail down across the ground, with hundreds of twigs covered with sparse amounts of tiny, copper needles. The needles themselves are light.

In late summer it produces large, light green aril (seeds with fleshy covers).

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It is almost impossible to grow from cuttings.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
