Clinging Starflower

This average-sized flower grows up to 1.8 feet (56 cm) tall. Its yellow stem is very thick, and the giant, green leaves are long, narrow with ripped edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and a pair of leaves grow at the base of the flower head.

A single medium-sized flower sits at the end of each stem. The flowers are 26 cm (10.2 inches) wide, with petals that are deep orange on the edges and pink at the center. The flower head is made up of handfuls of petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight star. They detach easily.

It has a mildly strong scent that smells like rotten eggs, and it has a fair amount of pollen; it can cause allergic reactions. It is a self-pollinator, but is enjoyed by several specific types of insect.
