Bloodwood Tree

Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This modest-sized tree grows up to 8 meters (26.2 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 570 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, wonky trunk covered in thick, rough, mahogany-coloured bark, and inside, the flexible wood is burgundy-brown.

The thick clumps of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with thick bunches of leathery, small, stiff, pointed leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are solid white with blood red streaks.

In late summer it forms tiny, vibrant green, winged seeds that spin and fall nearby.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with clear space between them.

It is almost impossible to grow from cuttings.
It is suitable for making paper
