Clingvine Pepperflower
Flower type: Perennial (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)This small flower grows up to 2 inches (5 cm) tall. Its pink-red stems grow from the base of the plant in bunches of 3 and are very thick and straight, and split into dozens of branching stems at the base, and the small, lime green leaves are needle-like with jagged edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.
Two small flowers sit at the end of the stem. The flowers are 2 cm (0.8 inches) wide, with petals that are generally black; each flower tends to be a variation of this colour. The flower head is shaped like a star with 45 raised, narrow petals. They fall easily.
It has a powerful scent that smells like pepper, and it has lots of pollen, but it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is pollinated by the wind, but is also visited by some specific types of insect.
