Blue Starflower

Flower type: Annual (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This small flower grows up to 5 inches (13 cm) tall. Its aquamarine stem is thick and straight with a curved tip, and the tiny, yellow-green leaves are sickle shaped with smooth edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

Around 70 medium-sized flowers grow in a bunch at the end of the stem. The flowers are 3 cm (1.2 inches) wide, with petals that are sky blue in the center, aquamarine in the middle and light purple at the edges. The flower head is made up of 48 petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight star. They are hardy.

It has an overpowering scent that smells like fruity, and it has lots of pollen; it can cause severe allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is also visited by a variety of insects.

It actively smothers and kills off other plants.
It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
