Crimson Starflower

This short flower grows up to 3 inches (8 cm) tall. Its pink-red stem is thick and splits into dozens of branching stems halfway up, and the huge, yellow leaves are asymmetrical with smooth edges. The leaves grow from the base and are the same length as the stem.

A single small flower sits at the end of the stem. The flowers are 5 cm (2.0 inches) wide, with red petals on the lower layer and cyan petals decorated with dark yellow dots on the inner layer. The central disk is beige. The flower head is made up of 12 petals in raised layers. They detach easily.

It has a delicate scent that smells like sweat, and it has an average amount of pollen; it can cause severe allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is also visited by one species of insect in particular.
