Copperleaf

Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This small tree grows up to 6 meters (19.7 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 119 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a thick, straight trunk covered in paper-thin, cracked, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the very hard wood is yellow-brown.

The abundance of branches trail down to the ground and are covered with small bunches of smooth, tiny, circular leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either yellow, or light red with copper patches.

In early spring, it produces balls of tiny, indigo blossoms with needle-like petals. They are very delicate and have a strong scent that smells like roses.

In late summer it forms small, grey, winged seeds that float and land far away.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
