Copperwood

Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short tree grows up to 3 meters (9.8 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 63 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, straight trunk covered in fine, smooth, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the very light wood is dark brown.

The small handful of branches are very short and thin and are covered with small amounts of leathery, tiny, very narrow and elongated leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are solid grey or dark brown, with copper streaks.

In early spring, it produces thousands of small, hazel blossoms with finger-like petals. They are hardy and have a delicate scent that smells like an ocean breeze.

In late summer it forms tiny, faded orange berries.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with grassy ground between them.
