Copperleaf

Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This modest-sized flower grows up to 1.3 feet (38 cm) tall. Its lime green stem is very thin, and the large, copper leaves are circular with rounded edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

Each stem splits 3 to 8 times; a single giant flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 4 cm (1.6 inches) wide, with petals that are generally red; each flower tends to be a variation of this colour. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 30 petals. They are very delicate.

It has a weak scent that smells like coffee, and it has lots of pollen; it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is a self-pollinator, but is also particularly attractive to insects.

It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
It can flourish even in standing water.
