Indigo

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)

This colossal fruit tree grows up to 55 feet (16.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 31 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, twisting trunk covered in knobbly, brown bark, and inside, the very light wood is pine-coloured.

The branches are short stubs and are covered with thick bunches of giant, wide leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are found in aquamarine and faded purple varieties.

In early spring, it produces a handful of tiny, lilac blossoms with fan-like petals with a tube-like floral cup. They fall easily and have an intense scent that smells like rotten meat.

In late summer it produces , circular fruit. The hairy indigo skin is thick and edible when boiled; it is savoury, and the very soft brown flesh is sour and syrupy. The black seed is tiny and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with clear space between them.

It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
