Copperwood

Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This average-sized tree grows up to 23 meters (75.5 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 688 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a wide, wavy trunk covered in paper-thin, rough, pine-coloured bark, and inside, the very dense wood is dark brown.

The small bunches of branches are very long and thick and are covered with large amounts of smooth, tiny, fan-like leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of copper that gradient shifts to faded purple at the top.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of large, orange blossoms with finger-like petals. They are sturdy and have an intense scent that smells like cherry.

In late summer it forms small, silver, shelled seeds.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with grassy ground between them.

It comes in 8 varieties, each with a different leaf colour.
The sap is indigo.
It is suitable for use as a construction material
