Blackfern
Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This big tree grows up to 65 meters (213.3 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 429 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a very thick, straight trunk covered in cracked, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the flexible wood is white with black speckles.
The branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with handfuls of smooth, giant, asymmetrical leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are found in subtle orange and grey varieties.
In late summer it forms medium-sized, light brown, winged seeds that float and land far away.
The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.
Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
It is said to be able to live for hundreds of years.
