Purplebell Fruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)

This small fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 37 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a slender, slanted trunk covered in thin, wrinkled, white with black speckled bark, and inside, the soft wood is black.

The abundance of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with very large amounts of tiny, slender, pointed leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are found in purple and faded red varieties.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of medium-sized, beige blossoms with slender, pointed petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a weak scent that smells like warm cookies.

In late summer it produces large, pleated fruit. The rubbery olive skin is stretchy and edible when boiled; it is sweet and savoury, and the very soft red flesh is salty and sticky. The bronze seeds are small and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
