Ashy Orange Succulent

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This modest-sized caudiciform grows up to 33 feet (10.1 meters) tall. The needle-like stem is orange, and is dotted with small white spines. The bulbous, ashy orange trunk can grow to as much as 33 feet (10.1 meters) in diameter. Its yellow or brown branches are long, thin and wispy.

The smooth-edged, asymmetrical leaves are solid black or blue, with beige splotches. They are resistant, but do not detach easily.

It is slow growing, taking 9 years to reach maturity. Once mature, several flowers with petals that are amber in the center, azure in the middle and bronze at the edges grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is shaped like a star with 60 tightly layered, narrow petals. It has a delicate scent that smells like onion.

The caudiciform's skin is tough, the grey flesh is rubbery, and the yellow sap is thin.

It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
It aggressively steals nutrients from other large plants (but not each other).
The sap causes itchiness of the skin
