Aquamarine

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This small fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 79 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, curved trunk covered in very thick, wrinkled, silver bark, and inside, the flexible wood is black with white speckles.

The excessive amount of branches are short and thick and are covered with very large amounts of giant, finger-like leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are washed-out yellow and peach.

In early spring, it produces thousands of tiny, turquoise blossoms with stiff, pointed petals with a tube-like floral cup. They detach easily and have a weak scent that smells like misty mornings.

In mid-summer it produces , circular fruit. The hairy aquamarine skin is peel-able and edible when roasted; it is savoury, and the crunchy slate flesh is spicy and very dry. The crimson seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with clear space between them.

It is almost impossible to grow from cuttings.
It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
