Copperfruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Sheds its leaves in winter)

This small fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 65 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, straight trunk covered in silky, mahogany-coloured bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is burgundy.

The small handful of branches are short, thin and wispy and are covered with large amounts of small, wide leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either indigo or washed-out orange, with violet splotches.

In early spring, it produces several medium-sized, black blossoms with V-shaped shaped petals. They detach easily and have a mildly strong scent that smells like a damp log.

In mid-summer it produces small, triangular fruit. The soft dark grey skin is thin and edible when roasted; it is slightly bitter, and the very soft copper flesh is spicy and salty and sticky. The yellow seed is very large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

It is suitable for making strong rope
