It has a long and flexible, straight trunk covered in thick, silky, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the light wood is black.
The abundance of branches are very short and thick and are covered with copious amounts of crispy, huge, spear shaped leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are purple and brown.
In late summer it forms tiny, deep yellow seed pods.
The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.
Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
