Copperfruit
Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 10 feet (3.0 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 55 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.
It has a very thick, crooked trunk covered in ridged, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the dense wood is white.
The small bunches of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with large amounts of giant, needle-like leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are solid red with amber splotches.
In early spring, it produces copious amounts of giant, gold blossoms with crescent-shaped shaped petals. They are very delicate and have a strong scent that smells like burning wood.
In late autumn it produces small, oval fruit. The soft hazel skin is thick and inedible, and the very soft purple flesh is sweet and dry. The deep red seed is large and is in the centre of the fruit.
The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.
Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
