It has a stocky, angular trunk covered in silky, light brown bark, and inside, the dense wood is pale brown-grey.
The tangled mess of branches are very short and thin, with thousands of twigs covered with very large amounts of large, silver needles. The needles themselves are sturdy.
In late summer it produces giant, blood red, shelled seeds.
The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.
Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
