Copperberry

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This big fruit tree grows up to 28 feet (8.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 35 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, straight trunk covered in very thick, rough, silver bark, and inside, the very light wood is pale brown-grey.

The sparse amount of branches trail down to the ground and are covered with large amounts of tiny, long, tapering leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are red and slate.

In early spring, it produces many giant, purple blossoms with many layers of petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like fermented fruit.

In mid-summer it produces , long, narrow fruit. The clammy copper skin is tough and edible when roasted; it is sour, and the slightly crunchy purple flesh is spicy and syrupy. The gold seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
