Crimson Moss

This pink-red moss is commonly found growing in tiny clumps On trees, In moorlands, and In bogs.
It is small, growing up to 3 inches (8 cm) tall. It forms in sparse patches, and is extremely rigid; it dislikes being stepped on.
When mature, emerald kidney-shaped capsules grow at the end of long, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early summer to release millions of spores.
