Bloodfern
Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its leaves)This short tree grows up to 3 meters (9.8 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 264 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a narrow, crooked trunk covered in paper-thin, silky, black bark, and inside, the very dense wood is pale yellow.
The small bunches of branches trail down across the ground, covered with very large amounts of small, blood red and gentle green needles. The needles themselves are delicate.
In late summer it produces giant, cream, spiky-shelled seeds.
The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.
Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
