Burgundy Fruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This enormous fruit tree grows up to 53 feet (16.2 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 35 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, wavy trunk covered in silky, dark gray bark, and inside, the very hard wood is burgundy.

The small bunches of branches are very long and slender and are covered with large amounts of miniature, 5 pointed leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are found in yellow, light grey and cyan varieties.

In early spring, it produces dozens of small, pastel yellow blossoms with sickle shaped petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have an intensely strong scent that smells like damp.

In early winter it produces tiny, long, narrow fruit. The sticky bright orange skin is thin and edible when cooked; it is sweet, and the crunchy grey flesh is slightly sour and dry. The slate seed is large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with grassy ground between them.

It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
The trunk and branches are covered in large spikes.
