Spikewillow

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 106 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has numerous flexible, straight stems covered in wrinkled, light gray bark, and the wood inside is black.

The branches are very short and thin with dozens of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of giant, very narrow and elongated, leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are found in intense red and violet varieties, resistant and crispy.

It produces a handful of small, indigo flowers with long, narrow petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a delicate scent that smells like sugar. In late winter it forms largeolive berries.


It is suitable for use as a construction material
It is often home to a particular bird species.
The stems are covered in large spikes.
