Burgundy Spine Cactus

Succulent type: Stem succulent (Stores water in its stem)

This short cactus grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall. It splits at the base to form 6 spear shaped stems. Each stem is green, and is covered in many flexible olive spines. The round body is burgundy, and is covered in handfuls of rigid cyan spines.

It is fast growing, taking 5 months to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with each petal a slightly different shade of subtle orange, grow at the top, reappearing once every 6 years. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of 23 petals. It has a strong scent that smells like new carpet.

The cactus's skin is thick, the yellow flesh is rough, and the lime sap is thin.

It can absorb up to 11 times its own weight in water.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
