Vinefruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This short fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 50 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, curved trunk covered in wrinkled, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the very hard wood is black.

The tangled mess of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with copious amounts of tiny, needle-like leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either cyan, or dark brown with green splotches.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of tiny, silver blossoms with many layers of petals with a tube-like floral cup. They detach easily and have a fairly strong scent that smells like wet dog.

In early winter it produces tiny, oval fruit. The sticky olive skin is tough and inedible, and the crunchy dark brown flesh is spicy and oily. The bronze seeds are small and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
