Clinging Firebloom

Flower type: Annual (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This short flower grows up to 2 inches (5 cm) tall. Its red stem is wispy, and the miniature, orange-yellow and emerald leaves are dark orange-yellow on the underside and are thin with wavy edges. The leaves grow in pairs along the length of the stem.

Each stem splits 4 to 10 times; a single giant flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 2 cm (0.8 inches) wide, with magenta petals and a yellow center. The flower head is shaped like a tube with 49 widely spaced, narrow petals. They are sturdy.

It has an intensely strong scent that smells like alcohol, and it has a fair amount of pollen. It is pollinated by insects and is particularly attractive to bees.

It absorbs an exceptionally large amount of water each day.
