Crimson Spine Caudicula
Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This small caudiciform grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall. The thick stem is burgundy, and is covered in thick bunches of rigid crimson spines. It has a twisting, bulbous, silver trunk atop a thick block of wrinkled, exposed roots. The branches are wide and gray and trail down across the ground.
The rounded-edged, fan-like leaves are brown and cyan. They are rigid, and take some effort to detach.
It is very slow growing, taking 46 years to reach maturity. Once mature, several flowers with orange petals and a sky blue central disk grow at the top, reappearing once every 2 years. The flower head is made up of 27 petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight dish. It has a delicate scent that smells like paint.
The caudiciform's skin is tough, the grey flesh is leathery, and the cream sap is thin.
