Blueleaf Thornbush
Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)This huge shrub grows up to 13 feet (4.0 meters) tall and lives for around 76 years. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.
It has numerous narrow, angular stems covered in rough, dark green bark, and the wood inside is white with black speckles.
The branches are short, rigid and upright with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with handfuls of miniature, wide, leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are white on the sides and sky blue at the center, resilient and waxy.
In mid-summer it produces hundreds of small, green blossoms with oblong shaped petals. They are sturdy and have the faintest scent that smells like onion.
In midwinter tiny circular fruits ripen. The crispy purple skin is peel-able and extremely sour, and the soft white flesh is savoury and syrupy. The orange seeds are tiny and are bunched at the top of the fruit.
It is excellent at collecting and storing carbon dioxide
Ivy often grows along the trunk.
