Azure Spined Sunburst

This average-sized caudiciform grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall. The perforated stem is azure, and is dotted with small bright orange spines. The straight, faded red trunk can grow to as much as 4 feet (1.2 meters) in diameter in the middle. Its brown branches are short stubs and start growing three quarters of the way up the stem.

The thick bunches of smooth-edged, 9 pointed leaves are vibrant green on the sides and gold at the center. They are light, and take some effort to detach.

It is steady-growing, taking 14 months to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a single flower with petals that are generally deep yellow; each flower tends to be a variation of this colour grows at the top, reappearing after 2 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is made up of many petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight bowl. It has a delicate scent that smells like soap.

The caudiciform's skin is nearly impenetrable, the crimson flesh is soft, and the muted orange sap is thin and can kill if consumed.
