Coniwick Bush

Shrub type: Coniferous (Stores water in its stem)

This massive shrub grows up to 11 feet (3.4 meters) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 160 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous flexible, wavy stems covered in thin, rough, brown-green bark, and the wood inside is burgundy-brown.

The branches are very short and thick with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with handfuls of giant, wide, leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are magenta on the edges and grey at the center, resilient and clammy.

In mid-summer it produces hundreds of giant, green blossoms with oval-shaped shaped petals. They are sturdy and have an intense scent that smells like baby powder.

In late autumn tiny spherical fruits ripen. The hairy amber skin is delicate and savoury, and the soft blood red flesh is spicy and very dry. The grey seed is small and is in the centre of the fruit.
