This gray moss is commonly found blanketing medium-sized areas In marshes, and In heathlands.
It is short, growing up to 3 inches (8 cm) tall. It forms in thin clumps, and is extremely flexible.
When mature, emerald spiral capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the mid-summer to release hundred of spores.

It absorbs an exceptionally large amount of water each day.
It actively smothers and kills off other plants.
It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
